After beginning to travel her home continent with her sister, Valentina followed her instinct further - to travel and explore life outside of Europe in her mid 20s. As she worked hard and took great risk leaving close friends, family, and a career behind – to explore a little more of our incredible world and herself in 2019, she also continued to grow, expanding outward and opening up herself to more adventurous parts of life. These choices eventually led her to Aotearoa (New Zealand) where she lived and worked as the world shut down during the beginning of the pandemic. 

Valentina met Joe, her partner, under a cold snow starry sky at the base of Mount Aoraki. Her beautiful eyes and forwardness – his warmth and humor - they connected immediately, fell in love, struggled, grew and thrived. Her heart and love for trekking and living outside amongst the birds, ferns and kowhai of New Zealand came to an end when she returned home to Belgium – out of love for family and her father, who's health was in decline. 

Only a year later, our brightest Valentina passed away unexpectedly to natural causes at the end of 2022, in her home in Belgium. She is survived by her loving mother, sister, partner, godparents and close friends . Growing through the pain in our hearts to know she is no longer here in the way that we knew her to be has felt impossible. With gratitude for everything she is to us and in honor of her intangible brightness and spirit, and respect for nature, we honor her values by giving back to this earth and Aotearoa.

Oren Agmon and his family were on shlichut to New Zealand from 1999-2003, working with Habonim Dror Aotearoa New Zealand. Adam was born in New Zealand and was a beloved baby in the Habo community, along with his brother Yahel. The members of this community are devastated by Adam’s death and the Agmon family’s loss.

Oren writes: “Adam's NZ identity was a huge part of his being, as it is for me and Yahel too, but Adam especially. He always followed the All Blacks and the America's Cup. Two days before the war we watched the Uruguay All Blacks game… and we looked forward to watching the Ireland game together. He knew all the players and followed everything for all those years.”

Our small farm sits in one of West Auckland's largest floodplains. During the Auckland Anniversary flood, forty homes downstream were inundated with water. We also have a significant population of rare freshwater mussels and even rarer crabs. Help us build a spongey city by replanting our three streams and floodplain, and protect our vulnerable city stream life.

The purpose of this project is to advance education in relation to environmental issues
and create employment opportunities for members of the community
within the Te Tai Tokerau area with a view to improving their health, welfare, and
economic wellbeing. 
Whilst providing employment opportunities, the project will regenerate the Waitangi
catchments through fencing, native planting, and pest control. Cultural monitoring of
the catchment will allow the water quality to be assessed and monitored throughout
the project.

The Greatest Goal is a crowd-funding campaign asking visitors to our beautiful country, as well as those that live here, to celebrate Aotearoa New Zealand co-hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ by donating a native tree. We’re tapping into the magic of collective impact because we know that together, we can score the greatest goal – a brighter future for generations to come. 

Donating native trees is a great way to mitigate the impact of your flights to New Zealand or your travel to the game – each native tree costs just $10 NZD, and whether you donate 1 or 1000, you’ll be contributing to a movement that will see thousands of native trees planted in projects across Aotearoa: to restore New Zealand’s unique biodiversity, take action on climate risk and grow stronger, healthier communities.  

Trees That Count is a New Zealand charity that is delivering this important project. We’ve built a movement of over 30,000 organisations and individuals taking collective action to plant native trees. Together this tree-planting movement has delivered over 1.7 million native trees in the ground, with a network of planting groups the length of the country ready and willing to plant millions more.

This campaign has been made possible thanks to funding from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as part of its work to leverage the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ and raise the visibility of wāhine in sport and to leave a positive legacy for our natural environment. 

The project is also being delivered with support from the Department of Conservation, the government agency charged with conserving New Zealand’s natural and historic heritage. 

Tiaki – Care for New Zealand, supports and encourages international and domestic travellers to experience Aotearoa New Zealand in a way that keeps everyone safe, protects our environment and respects our culture for now and for future generations. 

Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service, has given the campaign a head start with a donation of 25,000 native trees!

We are located between the Pukenui and Otaika forest reserves and are working to revegetate grazing land into wild bush to build a wildlife corridor between these important reserves. Our growing forest is home to tūī, kukupa/kererū, pūkeko, pīwakawaka, silvereye, grey warbler, ruru, and we've even seen a bat once!
Our project needs pioneer trees to take back grassy paddock as well as succession species to diversify a previously grazed tōtara grove.
